Now we’ve all had time to recover from the first Harmonic we’ll be adding various things to the website. Firstly, the lovely photos you can see in the header of our website taken by Kate Beatty. Have a click on an image to launch our lovely gallery of selected images from the festival. Kate’s done a fantastic job of capturing the vibe of the festival I’m sure you’ll agree. You can also have a look at some snapshots we uploaded via Flickr throughout the festival over on our media page. Not anywhere near Kate’s photos but an interesting alternative look at Harmonic!

Speaking of the Media page, you’ll find recordings from the festival appearing there in the next few weeks. We’ll let you know when the page gets updated if you sign up to our mailing list via the Contact page. You also find lovely reviews of both Friday and Saturday nights over on the Jazz Mann’s website as well as on Peter Bacon’s Jazz Breakfast website.

Just a quick reminder, as if you needed one, that Harmonic gets underway today with Dave Holland presenting Conservatoire students at the Adrian Boult Hall. We’ll also be having cocktails in the bar area from 7pm so make sure you get down early.

Duo gigs Announced

We’re very pleased to announce our final gig details for Harmonic. We’ve been holding open applications for the duo slots at the CBSO Centre on Saturday 13th March. They’ll be playing in the foyer area between slots in the main hall, and they are:

6pm: Dan Nicholls (Rhodes) and Steve Tromans (Rhodes)

7.30pm: Holly Thomas (vocals) and Tobie Carpenter (guitar)

9pm: Nick Rundle (sax) & Tym Jozwiak (drums)

Thanks to everyone who applied. You’ll be able to see these bands play free of charge in the foyer, so make sure you get down there.

Want to play at Harmonic?

If you’re a musician based in Birmingham or the wider West Midlands area and want to get involved with Harmonic, we’d love to hear from you. We’re looking for duos to play at the CBSO Centre on Saturday 13th March in the foyer. We have three slots to fill:

6pm – 6.30pm
7.30pm – 8.00pm
9pm – 9.30pm

As well as a fee, we can offer you a free pass each for the Saturday gigs of Paul Dunmall Trio, Sara Colman, Chris Mapp’s Gambol and Moon Unit which can’t be bad! If you play in a duo already, or have someone you can make sweet music with drop us a line. We’re open to any combination of instruments, the only stipulation is that you have to ply your trade in the West Midlands. Remember this is a jazz festival. Take a look at our programme and see if your music will suit our line-up before you enter.

Drop us an email at: chris@harmonicfestival.co.uk with your names, instruments you play, where you live, and if possible a link to your website or Myspace.

Rules
- Closing date for entries: 24th February at 8pm
- We will look at all the entries, but we will only get in contact with those who are successful
- You need to provide your own instruments/backline. We’ll provide a small P.A.

Harmonic on Jazz On 3 tonight

Birmingham Jazz’s Artistic Director Tony Dudley-Evans is on tonight’s edition of Jazz On 3 talking about the scene in Birmingham and in particular Harmonic and Mostly jazz festivals. Definitely well worth a listen, particularly as a track from Birmingham based band the Sam Wooster Quartet will be aired.

Tickets on sale now

Tickets for Harmonic are now on sale! Head over to the Buy Tickets page and follow the links to make a purchase.

We’re offering several options to make Harmonic as wallet-friendly as possible. The weekend ticket, priced at £32, will give you access to both days at the CBSO Centre on Friday 12th March and Saturday 13th March. Friday will be the Claudia Quintet International project and Saturday features the Paul Dunmall Trio, Sara Colman, Chris Mapp’s Gambol and Moon Unit led by Aaron Diaz.

If you can’t make both days we have tickets available for each day separately. £15 will get you a ticket to see the Claudia Quintet International project on Friday 12th March. £22 will get you entry to see all four bands on Saturday 13th March. If there’s only one band you want to see, our “One band” ticket will let you do exactly that. Priced at £7, this ticket will allow you entry to see one band only on Saturday 13th March.

Don’t forget that our events at The Yardbird on Thursday 11th March and Symphony Hall Foyer on Friday 12th March are free entry.

Things are shaping up nicely for the festival. We’ll be announcing details of our launch party soon, with a very special guest. Tickets will be on sale in the next few days, full details on this website as and when. We had a nice write up from Peter Bacon on his site The Jazz Breakfast along with Mostly Jazz Festival, another fine new festival for Birmingham in 2010.
